OTTAWA, Ontario — Global Affairs Canada (GAC) extended its appreciation Thursday to the Japanese government after the entry into force of the Canada-Japan Security of Information Agreement.
“This is an important milestone in the strategic partnership between Canada and Japan and will deepen defence and security collaboration between our two countries,” GAC wrote in a statement.
According to Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the agreement, signed in July last year, stipulates measures for the two nations to protect “classified information which is exchanged between the governments of Japan and Canada” and information that “requires protection in the interests of national security.”
“It is expected that this Agreement will ensure appropriate protection of classified information shared between the two governments and will promote further beneficial information exchanges,” the Japanese ministry added.
