MANILA, Philippines — Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) Commissioner Rossana Fajardo has resigned from her post on Friday, Dec. 26, citing accomplishments during her four-month tenure.
Appointed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in September this year, Fajardo said she has “been committed to advancing the Commission’s objectives, particularly in the areas of financial oversight and infrastructure project investigations.”
“Throughout my tenure, I have developed comprehensive approaches for evidence gathering, prepared detailed work plans, and supervised volunteer efforts in investigations,” she said. “My contributions have led to recommendations aimed at improving government procurement and budgeting processes related to infrastructure projects. I have completed the work I set out to accomplish when I was appointed, ensuring that the foundational goals of the Commission have been met.”
However, Fajardo believes the corruption probe into the anomalous flood control scandal, with the commission’s investigative and prosecutorial responsibilities, will soon transition to other “better-positioned” agencies to “ensure accountability for contractors and government officials.”
Effective on Dec. 31, Fajardo is the second commissioner to step down from the ICI following the resignation of fellow commissioner Rogelio Singson in early December.
Recognizing Fajardo’s rendered service, the Palace assured the public that the corruption investigations would still ensue despite Fajardo and Singson’s resignations.
“Patuloy pa rin ang pag-iimbestiga kasama ang iba pang investigating bodies. Hindi pa tapos ang laban ng administrasyon kontra korapsyon,” PCO Usec. Claire Castro said.
ICI Chairman Andres Reyes Jr. and Special Adviser Rodolfo Azurin Jr. are now the only remaining members of the commission, awaiting President Marcos’ appointment of new commissioners.
