President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and Prime Minister Narendra Modi of the Republic of India unveiled the joint commemorative stamps featuring the Philippines and India, as both countries celebrate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic relations.

The release of the commemorative stamps coincided with the five-day state visit of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to the Republic of India from 4 to 8 August 2025, upon the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The stamp features the commemorative logo of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and India. The logo incorporates elements from both national flags and highlights the national flowers of the two countries.

The design symbolizes the enduring friendship and shared values between the two nations.

“The Philippine Postal Corporation proudly issues commemorative stamps in recognition of the enduring friendship between the Republic of the Philippines and the Republic of India. This is a testament to both countries’ commitment to fostering mutual understanding, cultural exchange, and meaningful cooperation,” Postmaster General Maximo C. Sta. Maria III said.

He added, “This milestone is a lasting legacy to the shared history and vibrant ties of the two nations, and it inspires continued partnership and goodwill for generations to come.”

The Philippine stamp features the sampaguita, the national flower of the Philippines, which symbolizes purity, humility, and strength. Its small white blossoms emit a sweet fragrance and are often used in religious and ceremonial events. Despite its delicate appearance, it reflects the resilience and grace of the Filipino spirit. Deeply rooted in tradition, the sampaguita remains a cherished emblem of Filipino culture and national pride.

In Indian culture, the lotus flower (Nelumbo nucifera) is a powerful symbol with deep spiritual and cultural significance. It represents enlightenment, purity, beauty, fertility, prosperity, and eternity.

The lotus is often associated with deities like Vishnu, Lakshmi, and Brahma, and its imagery is prevalent in Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism.

Diplomatic relations between the two countries were formally established in 1949, with a Treaty of Friendship signed in 1952.
