Also in attendance at the event were Mayor Brenda Locke of the City of Surrey, members of the Surrey Public Libraries Board, and friends from the Filipino community.

In his remarks, Vice Consul Harder expressed his delight at the story’s oceanic setting and drew parallels between the myriad of characters in Jesse the Dragosaur and Philippines’ maritime diversity. He also spoke of how the story’s theme of pride in one’s identity is relevant to Filipino kids and adults alike.

The Philippine Consulate General in Vancouver continues to engage Filipinos and Filipino-Canadians across its jurisdiction. The city of Surrey in British Columbia is home to more than 35,000 Filipinos and Filipino-Canadians, making it one of the most visible communities in the city.
