MANILA – The Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) condemned the murder of a Filipina allegedly by her Slovenian husband just a few days after Christmas last year.

Marvil Facturan-Kocjančič, 27, was allegedly killed by her Slovenian husband, Mitja Kocjančič, while on holiday vacation in Bled, Slovenia on Dec. 29, 2024.

“As we offer our thoughts and prayers with Marvil’s family, we also stand in solidarity with them, condemning acts of domestic violence and seeking justice for our kababayan, and honoring the beautiful life she lived,” the CFO said in a Facebook post on Friday.

Meanwhile, the Filipino community in Germany has condoled with the family of the victim as they call for justice for her tragic death.

The ‘Filipinos in Germany’ Facebook page said that “the case has sparked widespread shock and sorrow, especially among the Filipino community in Slovenia, where Marvil had just begun building a new life.”

The group said the victim arrived in Slovenia only on Dec. 22.

Reports from Slovenske Novice said Slovenian authorities launched a probe into the incident that shocked the public.

The suspect, who allegedly had a history of mental health problems, was arrested and taken to a psychiatric hospital.

Meanwhile, the CFO said it would continue to advocate for the rights of Filipinos abroad, and urged those experiencing domestic violence and other types of abuse to reach out for support.

“Overseas-based Filipinos married to other nationalities or with foreign partners, who experienced any acts of trafficking, domestic violence, and abuse, may contact the CFO, 1343 Actionline against Human Trafficking, or the nearest Philippine Embassy or Consulate for assistance,” it said.
