Trump’s victory sends US stocks soaring, markets close week with gains

ISTANBUL – US stocks closed in the positive territory Friday, while weekly gains were around 4 percent to 6 percent following Donald Trump’s victory in the presidential election.
The Dow Jones industrial average posted a gain of 0.59 percent, or 259.65 points, and finished the day at 43,988.99. It increased 4.61 percent during the week.
The S&P 500 added 22.44 points, or 0.38percent, to reach 5,995.54, while its five-day gain was at 4.66 percent.
The Nasdaq also increased 17.32 points, or 0.09 percent, to end the day at 19,286.78 and gained 5.74 percent for the week.
The VIX volatility index, referred to as the “fear index,” fell 1.71 percent to 14.94.
The US dollar index rose 0.44 percent to 104.8, while the EUR/USD exchange rate fell 0.8 percent.
Precious metals were in negative territory. Gold lost 0.82 percent to about USD2,683.3 per oz. and silver dropped by 2.32 percent to USD31.29.
Oil prices fell around 2.08 percent, with global benchmark Brent crude at USD73.80. (Anadolu)
