Service reduction started earlier this week over low staffing levels

Fort Simpson’s health centre is operating on an emergency basis only, according to the the N.W.T. Health and Social Services Authority.

The service reduction started earlier this week and is because of “low staff availability,” David Maguire, a spokesperson for the health authority, told CBC News.

“At this time, there is no set duration, and the reduction will continue until staffing stabilizes,” Maguire wrote.

Anyone who has urgent or emergency needs can visit the health centre or call 911

People who need to speak with a registered nurse for advice or information can call 811, Maguire said.

He also said the reduction in services has been communicated to the community and the region.
