Marcos supports AFP bid to beef up cybersecurity capabilities

MANILA – President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Thursday expressed support to the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ (AFP) bid to strengthen its capabilities in addressing cybersecurity concerns.

Marcos made the pronouncement during the military’s mid-year command conference at the AFP General Headquarters in Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City.

The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) said the AFP troops got a morale boost from the Commander-in-Chief as he lauded them for their “gallantry in fighting the local insurgency and defending the national territory” during the conference.

“He vowed to continue supporting the AFP especially in its bid to adapt to new tactics against cybersecurity which has become crucial in protecting Filipinos from external and internal threats,” the PCO said.

Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro Jr., AFP chief Romeo Brawner Jr., Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, and Special Assistant to the President Anton Lagdameo, along with top military officials, also graced the meeting.

During the conference, ground commanders presented detailed updates on their respective operations and their assessment of internal and external security threats.

An outbrief of Exercise Balikatan 39-2024 was also presented to the President.

In his message, Brawner highlighted the military’s dedication to evolving its strategies and tactics to address both internal and external threats effectively.

“We are grateful for the guidance of the President. As our Commander-in-Chief, his directives will shape our future plans and programs. We remain steadfast in aligning our efforts with his vision for a secure and peaceful nation,” Brawner said. (with reports from Priam Nepomuceno/PNA)
