The Summer Leadership Program (SLP) is a unique political summer internship opportunity designed to invest in the success of young leaders in Canada. SLP provides meaningful employment opportunities to young people across the country within the realm of federal Liberal politics. The program seeks to connect participants with paid, full-time summer work positions in the offices of Members of Parliament, Ministers, the Prime Minister’s Office and the Liberal Research Bureau.

SLP 2024 will run for 16 weeks, from May 6th to August 23rd. For 2024, SLP will be returning to being a primarily in-person experience.

This year, participants will be in Ottawa for the first 8 weeks of the program (May 6 – June 28) in order for them to have the full experience of working as a political staffer. The second half of the program (July 2 – August 23) offers flexibility with options for a virtual, in-person, or hybrid experience. By participating in SLP 2024, young individuals across the country will receive unique job experiences, will be able to contribute to the work of the federal government, and learn about the political process from some of the best in the country. All SLP applicants will receive a base pay of $20 an hour, with amounts varying according to the hiring office.

The Summer Leadership Program is a great way for young people to work on important files that are relevant to the success and future of our country. During their internship, SLP applicants may work on foreign policy, judicial reform, advancing reconciliation and ensuring that the voices of all Canadians are heard. Our government employs people from across Canada who have a breadth of experience, whether work or life experiences and SLP applicants are no exception. Not only that, but the experience also that SLP applicants gain during this internship make them invaluable assets for their next employer and set them up for a success, wherever they choose to work after.

SLP 2024 Participant Applications are now open until February 9th, 2024. To apply, visit https://slp2024ple.infolib.ca/.
