MANILA – The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has warned the public and beep card users on the proliferation of unauthorized merchandise bearing beep card functionality.

In an advisory Tuesday, the DOTr said the use of these products as stored value cards in railway lines is “not considered authorized fare media on the light rail network”.

The items sold online include charms, trinkets, keychains, bracelets and accessories.

Persons found in possession of these items face penalties, including confiscation and blacklisting.

“These form factors are considered counterfeit and infringing on intellectual property rights and registered trademark of beep and other licensing brands, images and designs depicted on these items,” the DOTr said.

AF Payments, Inc., the legal owner of the beep trademark and logo and the sole and exclusive issuer of beep cards, has not sanctioned the sale, use and distribution of the merchandise, the DOTr said.

“Only legitimately sourced beep cards will be honored at any rail station acceptance points for payment of train fares,” the advisory read.
