Sweden shaken by four residential explosions in a single night
Bomb disposal specialists were summoned late in the night following a series of four explosions within slightly more than an hour in Sweden. These explosions occurred in the cities of Stockholm, Gothenburg and Nyköping and occurred amidst a notable upswing in violence associated with criminal gangs.
A little past 1:00 AM local time (2300 GMT), law enforcement in Gothenburg was alerted regarding two separate explosions transpiring at locations merely 10 minutes apart.
Local police stated “Both sites have been cordoned off and technical investigations are ongoing”. It was reported that the national bomb squad had been called to the scene. They also stated that “There are no reports of people being injured, only material damage”.
In both instances, law enforcement stated that there were no reported injuries. The four explosions occurred at separate residential structures.
In recent years, Sweden has faced challenges in curbing a rise in shootings and bombings, with gangs engaging in conflicts driven by disputes exacerbated by the drug trade. A total of 90 explosions and over 100 attempted bombings were reported in 2022.
