MANILA – The local governments of Quezon City and Manila have reported no damage due to the earthquake that hit Northern Luzon with an epicenter in Abra at magnitude 7 and felt in several parts of Metro Manila on Wednesday morning.
According to the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO), the earthquake was felt at Intensity IV in the city of Manila at 8:43 a.m.
“Kasama ang Department of Engineering and Public Works (DEPW) tayo ay nagsasagawa ng Rapid Damage Assessment and Needs Analysis (RDANA) sa loob ng Manila City Hall. Ito ay upang matiyak na ligtas ang building matapos ang intensity 4 sa siyudad (Together with the DEPW, we are conducting RDANA within the Manila City Hall. This is to assure that the building is safe after the intensity IV earthquake in the city),” Angeles said.
The Manila City Hall is now 83 years old as it was constructed in 1939.
Moreover, the MDRRMO personnel conducted roving operations to assess the situation in the aftermath of the earthquake felt in Manila.
Teams were deployed to check the city’s public hospitals, including Justice Jose Abad Santos General Hospital, Gat Andres Bonifacio Memorial Medical Center, Ospital ng Tondo, Ospital ng Sampaloc, and Santa Ana Hospital.
Meanwhile, the city government is already coordinating with the areas in Northern Luzon that sustained the most damage from the earthquake for possible relief and assistance.
The MDRRMO is encouraging the public to immediately get in touch with them for emergency response through its hotline number 0932-662-2322 or send an email to: mdrrmo@manila.gov.ph.
Meanwhile, employees of the Quezon City Hall immediately evacuated when the earthquake was felt at around 8:45 a.m.
At 10:06 a.m., employees were advised to safely return to their place of work in accordance with the directives of QC Mayor Joy Belmonte, based on the recommendation of the QC Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) and the city’s Engineering Department.
QCDRRMO Research and Planning chief Maria Bianca Perez said nobody was reported hurt during the incident.
“Malaking tulong ang paglahok ng mga kawani ng QC sa quarterly earthquake drill na isinasagawa sa QC Hall (The participation of QC employees in the quarterly earthquake drill has helped a lot),” Perez said.
For any emergencies, QC residents may contact the city’s hotline 122.
Shocking news that naturally occured. People must know how yo do the drill and always be vigilant. Prepare a go-bag and keep posted. This is such an eye opener for all of us that mother nature works in mysterious ways. So,we humans should learn how to take care of our nature because we cannot say whether a disaster will hit or not. To my kababayans, stay safe always and sending my prayers to you.
Great however since earthquake is above strong intensity, we shall also know how to protect ourselves, yes establishment may be earthquake resistance but thing is we shall prepared and know what the right to do. I see a lot of my Facebook friends that the time the earthquake hit the first thing they do is just to post that earthquake is happening than making the way to protect themselves.
