Response
In a statement, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said it is coordinating with regional counterparts in the regions of Ilocos, Cagayan Valley, and Central Luzon, as well as the National Capital Region.
“Assessment continues as of now but some areas have sustained damages to public and private structures. Some areas in the Cordilleras have no power and Internet. Monitoring of mountain roads continue,” it said.
Aftershocks were reported in the town of La Paz in Abra.
The town’s Operations Center Building was badly damaged by the tremor, based on pictures posted on the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) – Abra’s Facebook page.
Abra Rep. Ching Bernos also shared photos of buildings damaged by the earthquake.
In Bucay town, two were reported injured and were taken to a hospital for immediate treatment.
Meanwhile, Antonio Burgos, 56, a balikbayan from Germany who is now vacationing in Bangued, Abra, suffered slight injuries after he was hit on the head by falling tile debris while taking a bath.
He said most employees at the different government offices have been sent home.
Netizens also posted on social media about the effects of the earthquake.
In a video posted by Edison Adducul, falling debris was seen from a watchtower in Bantay, Ilocos Sur after the earthquake.
The tremor also damaged several centuries-old ancestral houses in Vigan, Ilocos Sur, based on pictures posted by Berniemack Arellano.

That strong really reminds me until now, I thought I having a migraine and vertigo but it was earthquake and even that Abra is far away from metro manila, It is still strong that you can feel it and the ground is shaking. I pray the people from Abra and I really have to say that we shall always prepared for this kind of disaster, as we cannot determine when this will happens and do the things that will protect us from the danger simple follow the guidelines that the government implement this past years “Duck, Cover and Hold!”

I never knew that something like this happened not until it was already in the news. This is shocking and sad to think that a lot regions felt this magnitude 7 earthquake, most especially those people in Abra which is where the epicenter of the earthquake is. This is why we should always be ready of whatever may come because we don’t know what calamity or disaster may hit us. It’s so hard to fight the things that we can’t control so no one is at fault of this because we are living with it. I just hope that they get the help they need immediately and always praying for their safety. I know everything happens for a reason, and may it serve as a lesson for us and make us ready in the upcoming calamity that we might experienced.
