MANILA – The Department of Transportation (DOTr) on Friday named Sonia Malaluan, a senior official of the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA), as the agency’s officer-in-charge administrator.
In a statement, the DOTr said Malaluan was formally given the order signed on July 1.
“OIC-Administrator Malaluan has served the MARINA for 32 years, and occupied top positions in the Agency such as OIC-Deputy Administrator for Planning, Director of MARINA Regional Office – National Capital Region, and posted as Maritime Attache in London, United Kingdom,” it said.
Malaluan would remain as head of MARINA until July 31 or until a replacement has been appointed or designated, “whichever comes first.”
Malaluan played a “major role” in organizational changes within MARINA including the development and issuance of implementing policies, rules, regulations, and crafting of its roadmap for the development of the domestic shipping industry, the statement read.
“MARINA OIC-Chief Malaluan is also a staunch advocate of women empowerment and equality, leading the WIMAPhil (Women in Maritime Association – Philippines) MARINA Sub-chapter as President for four years, and the Agency’s Focal Point on Gender and Development for eight years,” it said.
