Jan-April dengue cases 15% lower than 2021
MANILA – The dengue cases reported from January 1 to April 30, 2022 is 15 percent lower compared to those logged during the same period in 2021.
In a Viber message to reporters, the Department of Health said there are 22,277 dengue cases reported from January 1 to April 30, 2022.
There were 26,114 dengue cases during the same period last year.
“The weekly reported cases in 2022 were significantly lower except in Morbidity Weeks 12 to 16 (March 20 to April 23, 2022) where cases were higher than the cases in 2021,” it said.
Most dengue cases were reported from Region 3 with 2,858 or 13 percent; Region 7 with 2,905 or 13 percent; and the National Capital Region with 2,339 or 10 percent.
Nationally, there were 126 deaths reported and the case fatality rate is 0.6 percent.
As for leptospirosis cases, there were a total of 583 leptospirosis cases reported from January 1 to April 30, 2022, nationwide.
“This is equally the same number of cases reported during the same period last year. However, looking into weekly cases, higher number of leptospirosis cases were reported in Morbidity Weeks 11 to 17 (March 13 to April 30, 2022),” the DOH said.
Regions with the highest number of cases as of April 30 include Region 6 with 101 cases or 17 percent; National Capital Region with 76 or 13 percent; and Region 2 with 69 or 12 percent.
There were 77 deaths among the reported leptospirosis cases and case fatality rate is 13.2 percent.
