Taguig doubles daily vaccination target to over 16K
MANILA – The Taguig local government administered 16,625 coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) vaccines on Saturday, double the National Vaccination Operations Center’s stipulated target of 8,000 daily.
More doses will be supplied to the National Capital Region during the enhanced community quarantine period from Aug. 6 to 20.
Taguig Mayor Lino Cayetano thus urged his constituents to avail of free jabs at inoculation sites, vaccination bus, and home service for bedridden patients.
“I thank our hardworking health care workers and vaccination teams for their sacrifices to ensure that the city’s continuous aggressive Covid-19 vaccination program continues, especially amid the threat of the highly-contagious Delta variant,” he said in a statement of Sunday.
Experts said a Delta variant-positive person can infect at least eight people in one sitting.
Cayetano said the ECQ would entail a big sacrifice but noted the decision made by the Inter-Agency Task Force and President Rodrigo Duterte is for everyone’s safety.
Taguig will provide relief goods during the ECQ.
As of July 30, the city still has 366 active Covid-19 cases.
