Frencheska Farr named Outstanding Dramatic Actress at Micheaux Film Festival
“Beyond grateful.”
This is what Filipino singer and actress Frencheska Farr felt when she clinched the Outstanding Dramatic Actress award at the Micheaux Film Festival for her lead role in the short film “Harana.”
Frencheska shared this victory on Instagram, holding her trophy and saying, “Here’s me celebrating and basking in this wonderful awesome and inspiring moment.”
The actress-singer said she had an “amazing experience” and thanked the Micheaux Film Festival for the recognition, as it really meant so much for her “to be able to share our stories and not only to be able to move people through our art, but also to spark change for the betterment of all.”
She also expressed gratitude to her “Harana” family, including the film’s director Marie Jamora and its producers Matthew Keene Smith Jason McLagan. She then gave thanks to her family., friends, and those who supported her.
“This is dedicated to the Filipino people and everyone fighting the good fight. Keep shining your light! Beyond grateful. I LOVE YOU ALL,” Frencheska wrote.
She also shared a video clip of her reaction when she was announced as the winner of the acting award, along with the caption, “Dreams do come true!!!”
The short film, which tells the story of a cover band singer in Las Vegas who is trying to connect with her daughter in the Philippines, also bagged the Outstanding Music award.
“Thanks to the Micheaux film festival and their programmers for recognizing our film and helping us share the story of the #OFW (overseas Filipino worker) experience,” Marie wrote in her Instagram post.
She also acknowledged the cast and crew of the film, as well as its supporters.
According to its website, the Micheaux Film Festival “focuses on BIPOC creators, and celebrates diverse representation in the entertainment landscape.” It was named after African American author and filmmaker Oscar Micheaux.
