Covid-19 recoveries now 562K, almost 8K new infections: DOH
MANILA – A total of 597 patients have recovered from the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), jacking up the country’s recovery tally to 562,484.
In its Covid-19 case bulletin on Saturday, the Department of Health (DOH) logged another single day-record number of new infections at 7,999, raising the total number of active cases to 80,642.
This surpasses the 7,103 new Covid-19 cases reported on Friday.
Of these active cases, it said the majority at 94.4 percent are showing mild symptoms of the disease, followed by the asymptomatic at 3.1 percent, those in critical condition at 0.9 percent, those experiencing severe symptoms at 1 percent, and those with moderate cases at 0.53 percent.
The DOH also reported 30 new deaths, raising the death toll to 12,930.
As of Friday, a total of 4,390 out of 30,131 tested individuals yielded positive results.
Active cases account for 12.3 percent of the country’s total case tally.
The DOH, meanwhile, urged the public to stay at home and defer non-essential travel as the country continues to grapple with a surge in Covid-19 infections.
It also asked the public to comply with minimum public health standards such as regular hand washing or sanitizing, wearing of face masks and face shields, observing proper physical distancing, among others.
Meanwhile, half of the country’s 1,900 intensive care unit (ICU) beds are being utilized for Covid-19 patients.
Also in use are 40 percent of 13,500 isolation beds, 37 percent of 6,000 ward beds, and 32 percent of 2,000 ventilators.
