No reports yet on rise of Covid transmission in workplaces: DOLE
MANILA – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) on Wednesday has yet to receive any reports on rising cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) transmission in workplaces.
“So far, we have not received reports from employers and workers regarding incidents of transmission is rising in workplaces this is because of the strict implementation of health protocols. Our inspectors, especially OSH (Occupational Safety and Health) inspectors are industrious in inspecting establishments,” Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III said in a virtual forum.
He added that they have yet to receive complaints regarding the improper use of ventilation in places where they work.
“We have not received complaints from workers on lack of ventilation in work areas. Employers are strictly complying with that requirement since they will also be affected,” Bello added.
Meanwhile, he assured that employers who will not follow the guidelines in workplaces will be sanctioned.
He added that they can recommend to the Department of Trade and Industry to stop the operations of firms and establishments that willfully ignore the order.
Workers who do not comply with safety and health protocols will be subject to disciplinary actions, Bello said.
“That’s a violation of responsibility and can be subject to administrative actions, suspend or basis for dismissal,” he added.
