Nova Scotia issued new invitations to apply for a nomination for Canadian permanent residence through its Express Entry-linked Labour Market Priorities immigration stream on December 1.

The Nova Scotia Nominee Program (NSNP) did not specify how many invitations were issued in the draw.

The Labour Market Priorities Stream allows the NSNP to search the federal Express Entry pool for candidates who meet labour market needs in the province. Past draws through the stream have targeted programmers and media developersautomotive industry workers and nurses.

The invitations issued December 1 went to eligible Express Entry candidates who have a job offer from a Nova Scotia employer for full-time skilled work in Nova Scotia. The offer of employment must be for a period of at least one year after the permanent resident visa is issued. The term “full-time” means working year-round and at least 30 hours per week.

Candidates must also have one year of skilled, job-related work experience and have a Canadian secondary school diploma or the equivalent.

Lastly,  the draw targeted Express Entry candidates who have a Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) score of 5 or higher in French or English.

Those who received a letter of invitation in today’s draw now have 30 calendar days to submit a complete application to NSNP.

Candidates must include a copy of language tests, proof of education and of a job offer with their application.

Candidates invited from Express Entry pool

In order to be considered for a provincial nomination from Nova Scotia through the Labour Market Priorities Stream, candidates first need to have a profile in the Express Entry system.

Express Entry manages applications for Canadian permanent residence through three federal immigration programs: Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), and Canadian Experience Class (CEC).

Express Entry candidates are ranked on the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). They are awarded points based on factors such as their age, work experience, education, and language ability in English or French.

Express Entry candidates with a provincial nomination will automatically be awarded an additional 600 CRS points, which will effectively guarantee that they will receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) in a subsequent Express Entry draw.
