Ice Seguerra says he got his love for singing from late father

Remembering his late dad in a post on Instagram, Filipino singer-songwriter Ice Seguerra recalled how his love for singing bloomed because of his late father, Decoroso “Dick” Seguerra.

Sharing a photo of his younger self with his parents, Ice credited his mom for teaching him how to sing but said that it was because of his dad that he developed his love for it.

Kilala kami parehong hindi namimigay ng mic. Buti na lang hindi kami sa beerhouse nag bibidyoke kasi malamang nasaksak na kami (We are both known for not sharing the microphone. Thankfully, we were not having videoke sessions in a beerhouse because for sure, we would have gotten stabbed),” he wrote in the caption.

The singer recalled that his father even had in his cellphone the numbers of his favorite songs to be entered on a karaoke machine. When his dad was bedridden, Ice said his father would still sing through karaoke on YouTube despite the poor internet connection at the condominium, then Ice would bring the karaoke machine and wireless microphone.

Kahit nung malapit na siya mawala, papakantahin niya ako at pipilitin pa rin niyang sumabay, kahit nahihirapan na (Before he passed away, he would make me sing and would try to sing along even though it was difficult for him),” he said.

Aside from Ice, his father’s grandchildren and visitors would also sing for him. Ice said he saw how his dad’s eyes “light up” when they sang.

Namimiss ko yung boses mo, Pogi (I miss your voice, Pogi),” Ice added, referring to his father.

Ice’s father, who the singer earlier described as “an awesome father, husband, brother, lolo (grandfather), friend, leader,” passed away on November 15. Ice, also last month, posted a video of him and his dad on Instagram where they sang to “Ugoy ng Duyan.”
