DFA recalls PH envoy to Brazil over maltreatment of helper
MANILA – Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. on Monday ordered the immediate recall of Philippine Ambassador to Brazil Marichu Mauro back to the country.
“The Philippine Ambassador to Brazil has been recalled effective immediately to explain the maltreatment of her service staff,” Locsin said in a Twitter post.
This came after a viral video showing Mauro berating and mistreating her household staff.
In a statement, the DFA reported the household staff left Brasilia on Oct. 21 and is back in the Philippines.
“The DFA is reaching out to her to ensure her well-being and cooperation in the investigation,” the agency said.
The DFA also assured the public that a thorough investigation of the issue will be conducted.
