MANILA – Chinese Ambassador Huang Xilian on Wednesday turned over to Malacañang 150 sets of high-flow humidifier donated by the Chinese Embassy in Manila.
The high-flow humidifiers, received by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, are expected to benefit coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) patients in severe conditions.
“In the face of the challenge of Covid-19, China and the Philippines have worked together and lent assistance to each other, attesting the traditional friendship and added new dimensions to the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries,” the Embassy said in a statement.
Huang reiterated that China would continue to support the Filipino people in their fight against the pandemic.
Medialdea, for his part, extended his gratitude to China’s assistance and articulated that “the Philippines stands ready to continue close cooperation with China for an early victory over the pandemic, and economic recovery”.
The 150 sets of high-flow humidifier are the latest batch of medical equipment donated by the Chinese Embassy to the Philippines.
China reached out to donate ventilators to the Philippines as early as April 2020 when the ventilator supply was very tight in the world market, the Embassy shared.
As of August 2020, a total of 130 ventilators have been donated by China to the Philippines.
Beijing has so far donated over 250,000 Covid-19 test kits, 1.8 million surgical masks, and personal protective equipment.
The Chinese Embassy and Consulates have also donated over 40,000 “Friendship Bags” containing food and daily necessities to Filipino families in need across the country.
