MANILA – Department of Justice (DOJ) Undersecretary Markk Perete on Thursday has resigned from his position.

“After much thought, I have decided to submit my resignation from the DOJ effective today due to serious reasons,” Perete said in a message to newsmen. He, however, declined to elaborate.

Perete was named as Justice undersecretary by President Rodrigo Duterte in July 2018 and was later designated by Secretary Menardo Guevarra as the agency’s spokesperson.

Perete graduated from the University of the Philippines (UP) College of Law in 2006.

Prior to his appointment at the DOJ, he served as a technical assistant, with the rank of assistant secretary, for legal affairs at the Office of the President.

Upon the recommendation of Guevarra, Perete was then appointed DOJ Undersecretary along with former Democratic Independent Workers’ Association (DIWA) party-list Rep.
