PH Covid-19 recoveries now 253K, active cases rise to 52,702
MANILA – The country’s total number of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) recoveries rose to 253,488 after the Department of Health (DOH) reported 585 new recoveries.
In its latest case bulletin, the DOH also noted that 2,426 new infections were reported on Wednesday, pushing the number of active cases to 52,702.
Of the active cases, 86.4 percent are mild, 9.0 percent are asymptomatic, 1.4 percent are severe, and 3.2 percent are in critical condition.
The majority of the newly announced cases are from the National Capital Region (NCR) with 887, the provinces of Cavite with 201, Rizal with 147, Negros Occidental with 115, and Batangas with 99 infections.
Meanwhile, the overall tally of Covid-19 cases in the country has reached 311,694 since the health crisis broke out, with the death toll higher by 58 at 5,504.
Of the 58 deaths, 42 or 72 percent occurred in September, 12 or 21 percent in August, four or 7 percent in July.
The NCR recorded 20 deaths or 34 percent, Western Visayas with 16 or 28 percent, Calabarzon with eight or 14 percent, Davao Region with five or 9 percent, Central Visayas with three or 5 percent, the Zamboanga Peninsula with three or 5 percent, Soccsksargen with two or 3 percent, and Bicol Region with one or 2 percent.
“Some 35 duplicates were removed from the total case count — 13 are recovered cases and two are deaths.
Moreover, 14 cases previously tagged as recovered were reclassified to deaths after final validation,” the DOH said.
As of Tuesday, the 104 licensed reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) laboratories and 32 licensed GeneXpert laboratories have conducted a total of 3,487,710 tests nationwide.
DOH said it has 23,100 total bed capacity dedicated to Covid-19 patients.
Occupied are about 49 percent of 2,000 intensive care unit beds; 40 percent of 15,000 isolation beds; and 43 percent of 6,100 ward beds.
About 23 percent of 2,200 ventilators are in use.
