Manila hospital records highest recovery rate in a day
MANILA – The Sta. Ana Hospital in Manila tallied its highest recovery rate for coronavirus disease (Covid-19) in one day after discharging about 20 patients on Wednesday.
“Resulta ito ng tuloy-tuloy na serbisyo ng ating mga magigiting na front-liners, nagbunga ang araw-araw nilang sakripisyo matiyak lang ang kaligtasan ng ating mga kababayan during the pandemic (this is the result of dedication and continued service of our front-liners. Their everyday sacrifices to ensure the safety of our residents during the pandemic bore good results),” Manila Mayor Francisco ‘Isko Moreno’ Domagoso said in a statement Thursday.
The current number of Covid-19 patients still admitted in the said hospital is now down to 35.
Domagoso said the hospital’s occupancy rate stands at 38 percent, which is considered an all-time low for the hospital ever since the pandemic started.
He said the city started with a high number of active cases, with about 1,400 per day.
The number has decreased to about 700 cases per day, he said.
However, Domagoso said this small feat does not mean the local government and Manilenyos can now relax, saying the city’s Covid-19 response should be strengthened.
Sta. Ana Hospital head, Dr. Grace Padilla, noted that early detection of Covid-19 through the intensified testing capability of the city made it easier for the hospital to cater to patients.
“A lot of factors helped us achieve this small victory. Early detection through real-time testing via cartridges based RT-PCR laboratory, immediate admission to address the present problems, and innovative management in the Sta. Ana Hospital Manila Infectious Disease Center,” Padilla said.
She added that the support being given by the city government also contributed, saying they will not be able to do keep their guards up without the modern machinery, technology, and the medicines supplied to them.
Meanwhile, a second swab testing laboratory is about to be launched in Sta. Ana Hospital where the first molecular laboratory is also located.
“We can perform more or less a thousand tests a day for one machine eh now we have two. If we are able to maximize its capacity then we can even help the national government. Again, that is if we are able to maximize it. We’ll be doing our best to make it efficient, fast, and real-time,” Padilla said in a mix of English and Filipino.
