MANILA – Police officers should keep themselves in a professional and dignified manner when on duty or during inspections, the country’s second-highest police official said on Monday.

In a Laging Handa public briefing, PNP deputy chief for administration, Lt. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar, said this reminder is now being carried out by various police commanders in the ground.

“Our different commanders on the ground always remind that, especially during inspections of police personnel,” he said.

Eleazar’s remarks came after PNP chief, Gen. Camilo Cascolan, said he will not allow public shaming of police personnel who were caught sleeping on duty during inspections by ranking police officials, a practice which was carried out by former PNP chief Oscar Albayalde.

While he supports Cascolan’s move, Eleazar said this does not mean condoning their misdemeanors.

Dun sa mga iilan-ilan na sinasabi nating hindi gumagawa ng tama ay hindi naman po kukunsitihin ng ating pamunuan yan, so balanse lang po ang kailangan. But just the same, kung kayo po ay paulit ulit na sinasabihan ay talaga pong siguro ay dapat, siguro tanggap nyo na kayo ay mapahiya (For some who are not doing the right thing, the PNP leadership will not let that slip. It’s just about balance. But just the same, if you continue doing that and you are repeatedly being reprimanded, then I think you should be shamed),” Eleazar said.

Eleazar, who is also Joint Task Force Covid Shield commander, said these efforts are part of the PNP’s initiatives to raise the morale and welfare of their personnel.
