PH Covid-19 tally rises by 3,372 to 261,216; logs 20K recoveries

MANILA – The Department of Health (DOH) on Sunday reported 3,372 new coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) infections, raising the country’s overall tally to 261,216 with only 49,277 active cases.

Of the active cases, it said that about 87.6 percent are mild, 8.8 percent are asymptomatic, 1.4 percent severe, and 2.2 percent are critical.

The majority of the newly announced cases were from the National Capital Region (NCR) with 1,307, Cavite with 240, Laguna with 207, Negros Occidental with 199 and Bulacan with 145 infections.

It also logged 20,472 new recoveries and 79 deaths, bringing the total number of recoveries to 207,558 and the number of deaths to 4,371.

Of the 79 deaths, the DOH said, 57 or 72 percent occurred in September, 14 (18 percent) in August, six (8 percent) in July, one each (1 percent) in June and March.

The DOH also said 23 of the new recorded deaths were from NCR, 17 from Western Visayas, 12 from Central Visayas, 10 from Calabarzon, four from Zamboanga Peninsula, three from Central Luzon, two from Ilocos Region, and one each from Cagayan Valley, Northern Mindanao, Davao, Mimaropa, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao and Cordillera Administrative Region.

Two other deaths logged were from unknown region.

“Moreover, there were eight cases that were previously reported as recovered but after final validation, they were seven deaths and one active case,” the DOH said.

As of Saturday, the 92 licensed reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) laboratories and 29 licensed GeneXpert laboratories have conducted a total of 2,885,672 tests nationwide.

The DOH said it has a 21,300 total bed capacity dedicated to Covid-19 patients.

Occupied are about 46 percent of 1,800 intensive care unit beds; 45 percent of 13,700 isolation beds; and 48 percent of 5,800 ward beds.

About 26 percent of 2,200 ventilators are in use.
