MANILA – National athletes can now enjoy the discount privileges they much deserve as the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) released two batches of identification cards (IDs) and discount booklets that they can use while buying essential stuff.

More than 1,000 discount kits have been given to national athletes and coaches, including boxer Nesthy Petecio and marathoner Mary Joy Tabal.

“Thank you, PSC! Unexpected delivery! May 20 percent discount na ako nito (I have 20 percent discount now),” Petecio shared.

“National athlete privilege, excited to avail this! Thank you Philippine Sports Commission for making this possible,” Tabal added.

The release of the discount privileges is timely as all the sportsmen are hampered by the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic.

“We have always been supportive of our athletes and coaches and we hope this privilege help in easing their burdens caused by Covid-19,” PSC chairman Butch Ramirez said.

Manuel Bitog, the PSC division chief for assistance and coordination, said that the third batch of discount ID’s and booklets is expected to be released by the third week of September.

The 20 percent discount to national athletes and coaches is pursuant to Republic Act 10699 or the “National Athletes and Coaches Benefits and Incentives Act”.
