Filipino Covid case count abroad up by 18

MANILA — Eighteen more Filipinos abroad were diagnosed with coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) in the Asia Pacific and Europe, with the total rising to 9,710, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Friday.

Some 19 new recoveries were also confirmed in the same regions and one new fatality in the Asia Pacific.

The recoveries and death toll currently stand at 5,756 and 703, respectively.

The active cases are pegged at 3,251– at least 293 are in the Asia Pacific, 502 are in Europe, 2,316 in Middle East/Africa, and 140 in the Americas.

Most of the recovered and Covid-19 casualties were recorded in Middle East/Africa region with 4,083 recoveries and 425 deaths.

“As the fight against Covid-19 continues, the DFA commits to tirelessly monitor the status of our people abroad, partnering with local authorities in campaigning for (the) implementation of preventive measures, and facilitating requests for repatriation, whenever possible,” the DFA said in a statement.

More than 123,000 Filipinos have so far been repatriated since the start of the pandemic, 74,438 of whom are land-based while 49,210 are seafarers.
