Ryan Reynolds will be starting a movie this fall but what he’s “super excited about” is his newest project, the “Group Effort Initiative,” which he said is “designed to invest in the talent and creativity of any and all under-represented communities who’ve felt this industry didn’t have room for their dreams.”

Reynolds, in a video posted on his Twitter account, recognized that filmmaking is a “group effort” that has “systemically excluded Black, Indigenous, People of color (BIPOC) and a whole host of other marginalized communities.” This brings the Deadpool star to announce the launch of the “Group Effort Initiative.”

“I’m gonna be starting a movie this fall. And I’m committed to bringing between 10 and 20 trainees from the BIPOC community, or any people from marginalized communities. Of all ages,” he said.

Reynolds emphasized that the project aims to tap all ages “because it’s never too late.” He even jested about how he looks way older than he appears on set without his “full beauty makeup.”

On another note, he said that the expenses for the trainees will come out of his pockets.

“These new recruits, they’re gonna be paid, housed, and traveled out of my salary and will spend their days on set learning from professionals and getting real-life experience that they can then parlay into another job and hopefully, a career in the film industry,” he said.

In the Group Effort Initiative website, it says that the “specifics for the shoot are still being finalized” but it will “be sending out filming and application details in the coming weeks.” Interested individuals can sign up on the website.

At the end of his announcement, the 43-year-old actor said, “Since it’s called ‘group effort,’ we’re hoping that people with the privilege that I’m lucky enough to experience will join in that effort.”

Reynolds also thanked Netflix and Skydance for collaborating with him in the said program.
