The test results for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) of House Deputy Speaker and Basilan Representative Mujiv Hataman and his wife have come out positive.
Hataman confirmed this in a Facebook post on Saturday, August 1, saying that he and Isabela City Mayor Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman got themselves tested last Thursday as they experience what they thought was just a ‘common cough.’
“Maingat at mahigpit kaming sumunod sa safety measures. Pati na rin sa sino mang nakakasalamuha namin dito. Pero heto pa rin ang aming sitwasyon (We are carefully and strictly following safety measures, as well as those whom we are interacting with here, and yet this is our situation),” he said.
Hataman said their children and other members of their household in Basilan were also tested. They are currently waiting for their results to be released.
The couple, meanwhile, is currently undergoing quarantine, and that they took steps to make sure that their house is safer to prevent the further spread of the virus to others.
“Dalangin namin ang kaligtasan ng lahat. Sama-sama din sana nating ipanalangin ang agarang tagumpay ng bansa laban sa pandemyang ito (We are praying for everyone’s safety. We should also pray for the immediate victory of our country in fighting this pandemic),” he said.
The news was also confirmed by the mayor on her Facebook account through a nine-minute video, saying that she and her husband are not experiencing any symptoms that need to be treated at the hospital.
Meanwhile, she said that those who came in close contact with them have also been informed and are advised to isolate themselves. She added that they will continue to perform their duties as officials from their home.
On Saturday, the total number of COVID-19 cases in the Philippines increased by 4,963 and is now at more than 98,000. President Rodrigo Duterte decided to keep Metro Manila and other parts of the country under the general community quarantine (GCQ).
