16 more Filipinos diagnosed with Covid-19 abroad

MANILA — The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Friday said 16 more Filipinos were diagnosed with coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) in the Asia Pacific and Europe, bringing the total confirmed cases abroad to 9,208.

The Middle East/Africa region still has the highest number of infections among Filipinos with 6,610, followed by Europe with 1,090, Asia Pacific with 807, and the Americas with 701.

In its latest bulletin, the DFA also noted that recoveries rose to 5,387 with the nine new reports in the Asia Pacific. No new fatalities were logged in since July 22 retaining the death toll to 647.

As of this posting, the active cases stand at 3,174 — at least 173 are undergoing treatment in the Asia Pacific, 496 in Europe, 2,385 in Middle East/Africa, and 120 in the Americas.

Meanwhile, the DFA continues to work on the return of distressed Filipinos affected by the current global health crisis.

Since the outbreak began, the DFA has so far facilitated the repatriation of some 100,813 Filipinos, 57,633 of whom are land-based while 43,180 are seafarers.
