PNP Covid-19 death toll rises to 7

MANILA – Two more cops succumbed to the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), bringing the death toll in the police force to seven.

Dalawang kasama (natin) ang binawian ng buhay (dahil sa Covid-19). Tayo ay nakikiramay sa pamilya ng nasawi. Yung isa nating natanggap na ulat ay galing sa Cebu, yung isa di pa natin matukoy kung saan galing (Two of our colleagues died due to Covid-19. We are condoling with the families of those who died. Based on the reports that we received, one of them is from Cebu. We have yet to determine where the other is from),” Philippine National Police (PNP) spokesperson, Brig. Gen. Bernard Banac, told reporters in a press briefing in Camp Crame on Monday.

PNP chief, Gen. Archie Gamboa has assured the families of the police officers of full financial support and social benefits.

As of Sunday night, the number of police officers infected with the Covid-19 has reached 414 with 240 recoveries.

Banac said most of the cases were from the National Capital Region (NCR) and Region 7 (Central Visayas).

Out of 167 active cases, 136 are in quarantine facilities, 15 are admitted in hospitals, and 16 are undergoing home quarantine.

The PNP Health Service is currently monitoring 722 probable cases and 873 suspect cases.
