LPA off Mindanao develops into tropical depression
MANILA – The low-pressure area (LPA) east of Mindanao has developed into Tropical Depression (TD) “Ambo,” Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Sunday.
In a 5 p.m. weather bulletin, PAGASA said Ambo is moving west northwest at 15 kilometer per hour and was estimated at 545 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.
The weather disturbance has maximum sustained winds of 45 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 55 kph, it added.
PAGASA issued no tropical cyclone wind signal but said the trough of TD Ambo will bring scattered light to moderate with isolated heavy rains during thunderstorms over Caraga, Davao Region, Soccsksargen, and Maguindanao in the next 24 hours.
The weather bureau advised the residents against heavy rainfall and thunderstorms due to the country’s first tropical depression this year.
It added the raising of tropical cyclone wind signal in any locality of the country “remains less likely” in the next 48 hours.
