DOH reports 181 new Covid-19 cases; recoveries near 1K mark
MANILA – The Department of Health (DOH) on Tuesday reported 181 new coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 7,958.
In a Covid-19 virtual presser, DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire also reported 43 new recoveries and 19 new deaths
The total number of recovered cases nationwide is now 975 while the death toll has climbed to 530.
“Ayon sa pinakahuling datos, mayroon na po tayong 1,336 healthcare workers na naging positibo sa (Based on the latest data, we have so far 1,336 healthcare workers who tested positive for) Covid-19,” Vergeire said.
Of the total number, 507 are nurses, 493 are physicians or doctors, 74 are nursing assistants, 47 are medical technologists, 28 are radiologic technologists, 11 are respiratory therapists, 11 are midwives and 165 are other healthcare workers like dentists, barangay healthcare workers, and administrative aids.
“Mula dito, 29 ang kumpirmadong pumanaw sa Covid-19 kabilang dito ang 22 na physicians (From this, 29 were confirmed to have died from Covid-19, including 22 physicians)” Vergeire said.
As of April 27, the DOH has delivered personal protective equipment (PPE) — 270,320 coveralls, 1,667,090 face masks, 301,300 gloves, 154,075 gowns, 137,675 kN95 masks, 83,680 N95 masks, 39,292 face shields, 358,200 head caps, 2,392 thermal scanners, 144,903 goggles, 30 non-invasive ventilators and two sanitation tents — to hospitals and healthcare facilities nationwide.
These facilities include the Unihealth Parañaque, Parañaque Hospital and Medical Center, World Trade Center Quarantine Facility, Rizal Coliseum Quarantine Facility, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology National Headquarters Quezon City, Ninoy Aquino Stadium Quarantine Facility, CHD1 San Fernando La Union, CHD2 Tuguegarao Cagayan Valley, and the Philippine Air Force 505 Wing Villamor Airbase Pasay City.
Vergeire said the Covid-19 testing laboratories nationwide have recorded 84,738 total unique individual tests.
“At 74,743 or 88.2 percent dito ay nagtala ng negative results, samantalang 9,858 o 11.63 percent naman ang nagtala ng positibong results. Muli, lilinawin lang po namin na ang total positive tests ay maaaring mas mataas sa total confirmed cases dahil ito ay dumadaan pa rin sa case validation and processing (here yielded negative results, while 9,858 or 11.6 percent yielded positive results. We just want to clarify that the total positive tests are higher than the total confirmed cases because they still go through case validation and processing),” Vergeire said.
