MANILA – Thousands of Filipino healthcare professionals continue to fight coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) in the United Kingdom and Ireland, Philippine Ambassador to London Antonio Lagdameo said on Saturday.

Ilan sa mga PUI (patients under investigation) ay nurses at healthcare workers, patunay lamang kung gaano kadelikado ang kanilang trabaho sa ngayon (Some of the PUIs are nurses and healthcare workers, which proves how risky their jobs are),” he said in a Laging Handa briefing.

Meanwhile, he reported that at least 17 Filipinos and former Filipino citizens tested positive for the disease in the two countries.

“Sa pinakahuling datos na nakuha natin, sampung Pilipino at former Filipinos sa UK na nagpositibo sa Covid-19 at pito po naman sa Ireland (Based on our recent data, 10 Filipinos and former Filipino citizens in the UK tested positive for Covid-19 and seven in Ireland,” he said.

The envoy added that four in the UK have died of the disease while 33 are considered PUIs.

There are a total of 33,722 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the UK and 3,849 in Ireland based on the latest data of the World Health Organization.
