DFA records 18 new Covid-19 cases among Filipinos abroad
MANILA – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Friday reported 18 new cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) among Filipinos abroad, bringing the total number to 466.
“As of 3 April 2020, 18 new Covid-19 cases among overseas Filipinos in the following regions: Asia and Pacific, Europe, and Americas, have been confirmed, the lowest increase this week at 4 percent,” the DFA said in a statement.
The same regions also reported eight additional recoveries among Filipinos, but seven new deaths have been recorded from the Americas, Europe, and Middle East regions. The total number of recoveries among overseas Filipinos now stands at 129 while the deaths have climbed to 21.
In a Laging Handa briefing on Friday morning, Philippine Consul General to New York Claro Cristobal said seven Filipinos have succumbed to Covid-19.
Based on the infographics released by the DFA on Friday night, three Filipinos died in the Middle East/Africa, one in the Asia Pacific region, 12 in Europe, and only five reflected in the American region.
Foreign Affairs Assistant Secretary Eduardo Menez said the agency based its figures from the foreign post’s written report.
“We wait for the written reports from Posts because they contain more essential information- so there may be a slight lag between direct interviews and data reflected in the infographics,” he told reporters.
