MANILA — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) on Friday reported the completion of the multi-million pesos pumping stations to help mitigate flooding in several barangays in Malabon City.
DPWH National Capital Region (NCR) director Ador Canlas said the PHP27-million pumping station projects aim to improve management of floodwaters within the vicinity of Malabon often flooded during rainy season.
The projects will benefit barangays Baritan, Concepcion, Muzon, Bayan-bayanan, and parts of Dampalit and Halong-duhat.
On the other hand, DPWH Secretary Mark Villar said the project is part of their goal to protect the lives of people and properties, and to achieve this, they implement flood mitigating undertakings all over the country.
“In line with our core goal to save lives and properties, it is just fitting that we prioritize (the) construction of flood mitigation projects nationwide,” he said in a statement.
“Safety and health conditions of residents in Malabon are now more ensured with the completion of these projects,” he added.
The two pumping station projects in Malabon started in September 2018 and were funded under the 2018 General Appropriations Act (GAA).
Aside from the pumping stations, the DPWH Malabon-Navotas District Engineering Office (DEO) is undertaking more flood control projects that aim to provide new and modernized flood control facilities.
At present, construction works are on-going for the completion of river walls on the Malabong-Tullahan River, Pinagkabalian River, and Malabon-Navotas River.
