Licerna Romerica Abunda, or more known as Boy Abunda’s Nanay Lesing, died at the age of 90.
Nanay Lesing passed away on Sunday, December 1. This was announced by Boy’s sister and Eastern Samar Congresswoman Maria Fe Abunda in a Facebook post.
The said post also states that a funeral mass will be held starting Monday, December 2 at the Arlington Memorial Chapels in Quezon City.
With the whole post written in Waray, the congresswoman mentioned that the late Nanay Lesing had also served the public as a teacher, councilor, and mayor.
In the birthday episode of “The Bottomline” in October, the King of Talk became emotional when he was asked how is his mother. He bravely revealed that during that time, his Nanay Lesing, who was suffering from dementia, was in the hospital for two weeks, adding, “she’s the center of my life and I hope she’s not suffering. ‘Yun lang naman ang gusto ko sa nanay (That’s my only wish for my mom). She’s turning 91 in January, huwag lang masaktan (and I hope she doesn’t suffer).”
In the same interview, the TV host was really emotional on talking about losing the presence of his mother. He said, “I will be honest, I don’t know how I’m going to live my life without the presence of my mother.
Pero katulad ng maraming sugal sa buhay ko, susuungin ko (But just like the many risks in my life, I will go through it) because that’s the only way.”
Boy is known for his extreme love for his mother which was recognized by his fellow TV personalities as well. He even released a book called “Make Your Nanay Proud” in 2014, and founded the “Make Your Nanay Proud (MYNP) Foundation” in honor of his beloved Nanay Lesing.
