Another Filipino-American brought home the bacon after being named as the winner of dance competition “So You Think You Can Dance” Season 16, becoming the first B-boy to win the top spot.
Bailey Muñoz, 19, bested other finalists Mariah Russell, Gino Cosculluela, and Sophie Pittman who landed on the second, third, and fourth spot, respectively. He walked away from the competition with a $250,000 cash prize, a cover appearance on Dance Spirit magazine, and of course, the title of “America’s Favorite Dancer.”
In his Instagram post, Bailey cannot thank enough his family and the show’s judges Nigel Lythgoe, Mary Murphy, Laurieann Gibson, and Dominic “D-Trix” Sandoval.
“Through all the obstacles and struggles I faced every week, you guys have always been there for me! I love you with all my heart. You guys are my motivation and the reason I do what I do,” he talked of his family.
Meanwhile, Bailey said he will forever cherish all the judges’ feedback and advice which he will use as his “fuel to whatever dance will take me in life.”
He also thanked those people who have helped him in honing his dancing skills, as well as his supporters, the “Team BAILEY.”
“I can’t believe I’m living one of my biggest dreams! All glory to you GOD,” he wrote.
“To the rest of my family and friends. I wouldn’t be here today and standing before you as America’s Favorite Dancer without all of your love and support.
This trophy is for ya’ll. I LOVE YOU GUYS! WE DID IT!” he added.
The Fil-Am B-boy and rest of the Top 10 finalists will join together for the “So You Think You Can Dance LIVE! 2019” tour which will stop in 40 cities. It will begin on October 12 in Atlantic City, New Jersey and will end on December 6.
Bailey followed the footstep of Filipino-American Hannahlei Cabanilla who emerged as the victor of the show’s season 15.
It was not the first televised competition that Bailey took part in. Back in 2010, he earned a spot on the semifinals of “America’s Got Talent.”
