DPWH completes Kabigan Falls access road improvement
MANILA — Local and foreign tourists have now better access to the famous Kabigan Falls in Barangay Balaoi, Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said Friday.
The agency completed improvement works on the 900-meter road leading to one of the tourist destinations in the province.
Based on the report of DPWH Region 1 (Ilocos) Director Ronnel Tan to DPWH Secretary Mark Villar, the construction of the tourism road is set to provide better access for tourists who previously had to walk from the highway to the falls.
“From the previous 30 to 45 minutes walking time from the highway, visitors and residents now only take about 10 to 15 minutes to the municipal forest as it now allows vehicles to pass through the terrain,” Villar said in a statement.
The project was constructed with the amount of PHP28.96 million under the 2018 General Appropriations Act.
It involved road concreting and slope protection works implemented by DPWH Ilocos Norte First District Engineering Office.
The access road leading to Kabigan Falls is one of the projects under the DPWH-Department of Tourism convergence program, or Tourism Roads Infrastructure Program.
The majestic falls is an 87-foot waterfalls drop in a basin of clear and cool water.
