5 Must-Eats When in Canada

Published

on

Canada is amongst the most desired countries to live in around the world. There are several reasons for people wanting to move to Canada and make a life there. Amongst the most important is that the country is open to foreigners, and the residents are welcoming.

Moreover, Canada offers its visitors a variety of opportunities. One of the most significant characteristics of Canada is that it is open to change. From Marijuana use to LGBTQ rights, the country has been at the forefront of giving its citizens the freedom to choose what is best for them. A similar attitude is seen when it comes to gambling, especially online casinos. Canada offers players some of the best mobile gambling options that allow them to earn money, indulge in entertainment, and have fun from anywhere they like.

But there is more to Canada than just its openness. Amongst the most fun things to do in the country is to try their unique and flavour cuisine. When visiting Canada, you must give these classic regional dishes, at least one try.

Poutine

Poutine is the ultimate comfort food of Canada. A bowl of French fries topped with a bunch of condiments, there’s a heart-warming charm to this dish. Canadian’s give poutine their trademark appeal by adding gravy and cheese curd, but many options are available at any stop. It’s a quick snack that you can pick up from a café while road-tripping through the country.

Beavertails

When it comes to food, judging a dish by the way it looks, or its name isn’t always the right way to go about it. From excellent sporting options to natural beauty, Canada is full of adventure and excitement. However, beavertail is not one of them. It is actually a plain simple dough, deep-fried, and topped with yummy goodness such as Nutella and bananas. The dish gets its name because the dough comes in the form of a beaver’s tail.

Chips

Crisps, wafers, call them whatever you like, but Canadians take their chips seriously. Amongst the many flavours available in the country, ketchup is a popular one. Then there is also poutine flavoured chips and the classics such as sour cream and vinegar. For another unique outing, try Hickory Sticks, which are thin potato strips with barbeque sauce.

Split Pea Soup

All the supposedly greasy and junk food mentioned above might have you think that Canadian’s don’t eat healthily. That’s not true. In fact, Canadians are now moving towards healthy meal kits that allow them to have a balanced diet without worrying about what to cook and how. Split pea soup is a great example of a local favourite that is both delicious and good for the body. Typically, a winter dish, the soup has only a few ingredients and relies on natural flavours for its taste.

Meat

Meat lovers will have a wonderful time in Canada. There are several options available for enthusiasts, from seafood to game meat and also peameal bacon, a juicer version of the meat that is rolled in corn beforehand. For something more traditional, try the Montreal smoked meat in a sandwich. It is salty, packed with flavours, and smoked to perfection. Often people use the meat as a topping in salads and even poutine.
