To reach the potential markets of neighboring Southeast Asian countries, the Technology Application and Promotion Institute of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-TAPI) brought the winning Philippine technologies and innovations at the 2019 National Science and Technology Fair 2019 on 16-25 August 2019 at the IMPACT Arena, Muang Thong Thani, Nonthaburi, Thailand.

The NSTF is an annual event organized by the Thai government to initiate the public’s interest in science and technology (S&T) through exhibition, science competitions, conferences, seminars, and workshops in an extensive cooperation with local and international public and private sectors.

The fair presented innovations, local wisdom, and issues relating to the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) crafted by the United Nations.

SDGs are a collection of 17 global goals which universally call for action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that the people enjoy peace and prosperity, among others.

The celebration of the NSTF coincides with the commemorations of King Rama IV as the “Father of Thai Science” and King Rama IX as the “Father of Thai Invention”.

“The Department through DOST-TAPI is privileged to patron this important event as our participation allowed us to present locally-developed technologies and innovations to countries across the Southeast Asian region,” said DOST-TAPI Director Edgar I. Garcia.

He also mentioned that the NSTF is an amazing platform for networking, exchanging of ideas, and sourcing of the latest scientific and technological information.

Some of the technologies brought by DOST-TAPI are BIOTEK-MTM Dengue Aqua Kit, Smart Surface, and BioGroeR which represented modern Filipino innovations in developing transnational synergies with other countries.

BIOTEK-MTM Dengue Aqua Kit, Smart Surface, and BioGroeR are beneficiaries of the Technology Innovation for Commercialization (TECHNICOM), one of the premier programs of DOST-TAPI, which fast-tracks the commercialization of technologies through financial grants and technical support.

The NSTF, the biggest S&T fair in Thailand, was participated by 17 countries and drew over a million visitors in 10 days.
