MANILA — A janitor turned over to authorities a bag left behind by a passenger at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 over the weekend.

The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) on Tuesday said the bag contained EUR7,300 (PHP427,050), an iPad and a wallet.

According to MIAA, janitor Sixto Brillante Jr. was doing his chores when someone called his attention about a bag possibly left by a passenger.

Brillante apparently sought help from a colleague to locate the owner via the paging system. He eventually turned over the bag to the airport’s Lost and Found section.

After less than two hours, a foreign passenger came, and was verified to be the rightful owner of the bag.

MIAA also reported that earlier last week, a SIM (subscriber identification module) card vendor at NAIA Terminal 1 found a wallet at the lobby and turned this over to the Lost and Found section.

The wallet contained USD2,000, PHP30,390 and several IDs.

According to MIAA, authorities were able to contact the wallet’s owner through social media.

The owner claimed the wallet the following day.

MIAA officials said both Brillante and the SIM card vendor are due for commendation next month.
