MANILA — Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. on Tuesday supported calls to bring to justice the perpetrators responsible for the death of a Chinese national, who fell to his death as he try to escape from his employer over the weekend.

“One hundred percent agree with China on this one.

We go down this road of letting Chinese nationals be hurt, our people in China will pay,” Locsin said in a tweet on Tuesday.

The country’s top diplomat was reacting to a statement issued by the Chinese Embassy in Manila calling on the government to hold the perpetrators accountable.

On Monday, the Embassy said it is closely following the death of the Chinese, who was identified as Yang Kang.

Yang, allegedly held prisoner by his employer, died after falling from the sixth-floor window of his office building in Pamplona Dos, Las Piñas City last Friday.

Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo had asked the Philippine National Police to probe the incident, noting that the Philippines “will not allow nor tolerate any kind of abuse inflicted on any foreigner”.

The Embassy welcomed Panelo’s remarks as it urged relevant departments in the country “to bring the perpetrators to justice through an objective, fair, and thorough investigation and continue to take concrete and effective measures to protect the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese citizens in the Philippines.”
