NorthPort Batang Pier’s Robert Bolick has proved that he is more than just an asset to his team as the former San Beda University Red Lion carries his team into a first-ever Top 2 elimination round finish at the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Commissioner’s Cup following the transfer of his mentor, Stanley Pringle. Therefore, he was unanimously voted PBA Press Corps Rookie of the Month.

The 23-year-old led the way for his team into back-to-back wins against both Rain or Shine and Blackwater after the departure of Pringle into Ginebra on June 18. For the wins against the Elasto Painters and the Elite, and an eventual loss to the Fuel Masters, Bolick averaged 16.3 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 7.3 assists per game. In the six games during June alone, Bolick totalled 15.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 6.0 assists per game.

Against the Meralco Bolts last Friday, July 12, Bolick led the way for his team in a come-from-behind win as he totalled 18 points, three rebounds, and two assists, his eight points alone in the fourth quarter crucial in their one-point victory.

For the Rookie of the Month award, Bolick bested out contender CJ Perez of Columbian Dyip, who received an honorable mention at four votes of 19 as he averaged 25.0 points on 55% shooting, 7.8 rebounds, 4.6 assists, and 2.8 steals. Blackwater’s Bobby Ray Parks was also nominated averaging 23.3 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 4.0 assists for his team’s four games during this past month.
