Looks like the addition of Filipino-Hawaiian Kalei Mau proved to be effective for F2 Logistics as they defeated Philippine Superliga (PSL) defending champions the Petron Blaze Spikers in their first matchup for the All-Filipino Conference 2019 in a four-set match last Thursday, June 28 at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

The set scores ended 25-21, 17-25, 27-25, and 25-19, as the 24-year-old totalled 21 attacks, 19 digs, and two blocks. Ara Galang added 18 points off 12 kills, five aces, and one block, while also chipping 10 excellent receptions. Aby Marano totalled nine points, while Dawn Macandili performed defensively with 26 digs and 13 excellent receptions. Despite a total of 36 errors, the Cargo Movers still found an advantage in the absence of Sisi Rondina for the Blaze Spikers.

In Petron’s first defeat of the season, Bernadeth Pons tried to make up for Rondina’s absence at 18 points and 27 digs. Ces Molina contributed a total of 16 points, while Buding Duremdes also contributed 27 digs and 10 excellent receptions as libero Denden Lazaro was also injured.

F2 Logistics is now on top of the standings with a four-game winning streak, while Petron has moved down with two wins and one loss.

Cargo Movers’ head coach Ramil de Jesus applauded Mau for her contributions to the F2 Logistics, stating in Filipino, “The arrival of Kalei to our team is a big deal. We’re able to defend, we have a go-to guy on the team.” Prior to the match, De Jesus told the press about Mau as “the missing piece to the team,” explaining, “She has a high-percentage in attacking and anytime I need a go-to-guy and a leader, she’s ready to carry the team.”

With their big win against the defending champions, Mau exclaimed, “It’s going to be an exciting conference, exciting year ahead.”

About their opponents, Coach Ramil also added, “Petron’s team was not complete, so maybe Coach Shaq had to experiment because Rondina wasn’t there and he can’t maximize his people because we know Rondina not being there is a big deal.”

Petron is hoping for their players’ return during their next match against the Cignal HD Spikers at the Muntinlupa Sports Center on Saturday, June 29, while F2 Logistics wants to extend their streak as they face the same team at Cadiz City on Tuesday, July 2.
