Veteran actor Eddie Garcia rushed to hospital after suffering ‘severe heart attack’

The entertainment industry was left in shock on Saturday, June 8, following reports that one of its stars, veteran actor Eddie Garcia, was brought to a hospital.

In a statement, the actor’s family said the actor suffered from a “severe heart attack” while he was filming an upcoming GMA television series in Manila this morning.

“He is still under critical observation and all his doctors are doing their best to assure that he gets the best care,” they said.

Eddie, as shown in photos shared by netizen Glaysa Apoya on her Facebook account, was being carried by several men.

Some media personalities like Vice Ganda, actresses  Ruffa Guttierez, Alex Gonzaga, and Vivian Velez, as well as broadcast journalist Julius Babao took to social media to ask for prayers for Eddie’s recovery.

“Lord God we pray for Tito Eddie Garcia’s wellness and safety. He will be healed. We claim in Jesus’ name, Amen,” Vice Ganda said.

Julius, meanwhile, wrote in his tweet, “Idol Eddie Garcia suffered a heart attack today and reportedly in a coma & is in critical condition. Let’s pray for this legendary actor. A true icon of the Philippine movie industry. Kaya mo yan (You can do it), Manoy! Laban (Fighting)!”

Senator Sonny Angara also tweeted, “Praying for showbiz icon tito Eddie Garcia.”

Eddie’s family extended their “sincerest gratitude” to those who expressed their concerns and sent their prayers, and asked the public to “continue praying for Tito Eddie’s fast recovery.”

“At 90, he is still doing what he loves most, acting. He is a pillar of the industry and is very passionate about his craft,” the actor’s loved ones said.

Being the multi-awarded actor that he is, Eddie and actor Tony Mabesa won the Best Actor Award at the 52nd Worldfest-Houston International Film Festival in Texas, United States (U.S.) last April for their roles in “Rainbow’s Sunset,” a 2018 LGBT-themed film directed by Joel Lamangan.
