Finally another JaDine movie: James Reid, Nadine Lustre to star PH adaptation of South Korea’s ‘Spellbound’

It is a win-win situation for fans of K-drama/K-film and JaDine as it was announced that Kapamilya actor James Reid and his on- and off-screen partner Nadine Lustre is set to star in the Filipino adaptation of the Korean movie, “Spellbound.”

It was the couple’s agency, Viva Entertainment, who broke the news through their official website on Monday, June 3, although further details regarding the film are still kept under wraps.

This announcement came after James backed out from the upcoming “Pedro Penduko” movie, where he was set to play the starring role, after sustaining a spinal injury.

In a statement, Viva said it “regretfully” accepts the actor’s decision to withdraw from the film.

“James has spinal injuries and the film Pedro Penduko involves intensive training and major stunts.

His regular therapy and treatment prohibit him to train hard or perform for the rigid requirements,” the agency said.

“James has spent over a year training and getting ready for this film and Viva truly appreciates his dedication and commitment to this project. Viva respects James’s decision and wishes him a speedy recovery,” it continued.

As of writing, there is no announcement yet on who will be taking James’s place in the film.

“Spellbound” is a South Korean horror romantic comedy film released in 2011. The story revolves around a magician named Jo-goo (played by actor Lee Min-Ki) who fell in love with a girl named Yeo-ri (played by actress Son Ye-Jin) who has an ability to see ghosts.

This local adaptation will be James and Nadine’s comeback on the big screen, following their 2018 romantic drama film “Never Not Love You,” where Nadine was hailed as the Best Actress at the 67th Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences (FAMAS) Awards last April.
